2014's first post

Happy New Year 2014 to everyone reading this (maybe not the Chinese cos I think there's a different "Chinese New Year" which incidentally is the 31st of this month). It's been a fitful past couple of years when it comes to this blog and though I'm not that much into New Year Resolutions and stuff, I'd be making a conscious effort to write and post a bit more this year.

So, I rediscovered the poet in me towards the tail end of last year (2013) - I don't even know why I neglected that part of me for so long - and even though the journey has been a little arduous, I've been able to string some lines together in ways that makes sense to me alone, most times.

Today's poem is something I wrote on my way to "redemption". I did something awfully silly on New Years' day and even though Maya (that's her name) did forgive me [imagine! it's not even a week into the new year yet and I'm about offending people :'( ], I put this together as soon as my silly actions came to light.

I look for words to right my wrong
Oh, that I may even sing a song
And ask the birds to sing along
As I tell of my silly ways

I'd bend my knees on carpets of thorns
Bleed myself with broken horns
Through the darkest alleys I'd turn
To see your smile, bright like the sun

Oh, that I'd hear you laugh
Oh, that I'd see you smile
As down on my knees I go
Repentant of my silly ways...

Now, I know it's a bit rough around the edges, but as they say, "Desperate times call for desperate measures".

Maya: I'm still working on that other one (or is it two now?)
